During the holiday break, I learned a new buzzword, humblebrag.  The humblebrag is typical bragging disguised as a self-deprecating comment.  For example, the high school student who complains about the burden of being accepted to too many Ivy League schools, would be humblebragging.

So, for the new year, my new writing prompt for my students is this:  Write a scene in which your antagonist or even an unlikeable minor character engages in the humblebrag.  (Of course, if this writing prompt leads to a story that ends up being published, please don’t humblebrag about it.)

Happy reading and writing,

Christine
