The Long Island Reads “One Island One Book” selection for 2012 has been announced! This year’s selection is The Lost Wife, by Alyson Richman. Publisher’s Weekly summarizes the plot, “Star-crossed lovers are separated during WWII in Richman's heart-wrenching fourth novel. Josef and Lenka meet as students in Prague in 1936 and fall instantly in love. Three years later, with Nazis crossing the border, they rush to marry, but circumstances then force them apart.”
To be selected as a Long Island Reads book, the work must be about Long Island, or the author must be from Long Island and willing to do at least two appearances, one for the Nassau Library System, and one for Public Libraries of Suffolk County. According to the Long Island Reads website, “Each April, during national Library Week, book lovers in Nassau and Suffolk come together to read the same book, participate in discussions of the selection and enjoy related events in public libraries.”
In 2012, National Library Week will be April 8-14. Maybe you will see native Long Islander, Alyson Richman at a local event!
