Yesterday's New York Times Magazine presents a very different image of Milton S. Hershey, the chocolate king.
For years, I've read biographical passages about him with my students and always thought of him as a role model of perseverance. Years ahead of his time, he was a pioneer of Smart Growth before that was even a buzz word. So, this negative piece about him gives one a lot to think about. You might want to pair this passage with the typical biograpical passages about him and have students draw their own conclusions. At the very least, I think planning this lesson calls for the consumption of many, many Hershey's Kisses! (Just for research purposes, of course!)
