Hurricane Sandy

What can I say about the devastating effects of this storm?  I have friends who are still bailing water out of their homes, and other friends who had to rent an apartment because their home will be uninhabitable for at least a month.  I can't even comment on the stories I've read about people losing loved ones.
For those of us who remained relatively unscathed, it feels more like Thanksgiving than Halloween.   Especially, when you factor in the impromptu get-togethers that result when friends and family without power come over for a meal, warmth, light and company.  Of course, these mini-hurricane celebrations have a bittersweet quality to them, especially when one friend isn't there because she is bailing water.
Sandy has not only made me more appreciative, it has also altered the kind of invitations I am extending.  Who would ever think that they would utter, "Would you like to come over and do laundry?"  Who would ever think that would be recieved as an appealing offer?

Wishing I could do more,
Christine
